AfterQuery builds the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to measure and improve their models. We're hiring UI/UX designers as contractors to author and grade the design scenarios those evaluations run on.
What you'll actually do
- Author realistic product design scenarios from brief through polished UI, the kind a working designer would actually receive.
- Write reference critiques with the design reasoning behind each judgment, from hierarchy and spacing to interaction patterns.
- Grade generated UIs for usability, visual craft, and whether they would survive contact with real users.
- Demonstrate Figma workflows, from auto layout and components to prototyping, the way designers actually work.
Who this is for
- Product, UI, or UX designers with at least two years of professional experience and shipped work to show.
- Designers who live in Figma and can articulate why a design works, not just make it look good.
- People with strong written English who can turn design intuition into clear, teachable reasoning.
- Practitioners who notice when a generated interface looks designed but would fail real users.
Contract and pay
- $60 to $120/hr, paid weekly via Stripe. Your rate is set from your experience, not negotiated down after you start.
- Fully remote, fully async. No fixed hours.
- Minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum. Scale up or down week to week.
- No screen recording, no keystroke monitoring, no idle timers.
- Independent contractor. Ongoing project work rather than single task batches.
How our hiring process works
- Apply at /apply/ui-ux-designer-expert. About five minutes. Resume plus a few structured questions.
- Resume review. Every application gets read against a published rubric and gets a decision.
- Written assessment. You may be asked to take a written assessment for further placement.
- Onboarding. Sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, and get platform access.
- Project match. You're matched to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
