Graphic Designer Expert

AfterQuery builds the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to measure and improve their models. We're hiring graphic designers as contractors to author and grade the brand, typography, and layout scenarios those evaluations run on.

What you'll actually do

• Author realistic brand and layout briefs, the kind an agency or in house team would actually assign.
• Write reference critiques with the typography and layout reasoning behind each judgment.
• Grade generated images for text rendering, logo fidelity, composition, and brand consistency.
• Flag outputs that look polished at a glance but break typographic and brand rules a professional would catch.

Who this is for

• Graphic designers with at least two years of professional experience across brand, editorial, or campaign work.
• Designers with real typography depth who can explain why a lockup, grid, or type pairing works.
• People fluent in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign with a portfolio to show for it.
• Practitioners with strong written English who can turn visual judgment into clear, teachable reasoning.

Contract and pay

• $40 to $80/hr, paid weekly via Stripe. Your rate is set from your experience, not negotiated down after you start.
• Fully remote, fully async. No fixed hours.
• Minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum. Scale up or down week to week.
• No screen recording, no keystroke monitoring, no idle timers.
• Independent contractor. Ongoing project work rather than single task batches.

How our hiring process works

1. Apply at /apply/graphic-designer-expert. About five minutes. Resume plus a few structured questions.
2. Resume review. Every application gets read against a published rubric and gets a decision.
3. Written assessment. You may be asked to take a written assessment for further placement.
4. Onboarding. Sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, and get platform access.
5. Project match. You're matched to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.

Our contributors are practicing professionals, not annotators, and the work is credited, reviewed, and paid at professional rates.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional graphic design experience
• Depth in typography, layout, and brand identity work
• Hands on fluency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign
• Clear written English for documenting design reasoning
• Able to commit at least 10 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

• Logo and identity system portfolios
• Editorial, packaging, or campaign design experience
• Experience prompting or evaluating image generation tools
