Corporate & M&A Attorney Expert

AfterQuery builds the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to measure and improve their models. We're hiring corporate and M&A attorneys as contractors to author and grade the transactional scenarios those evaluations run on.

What you'll actually do

• Author realistic deal scenarios from term sheet through closing, the kind a practicing deal lawyer actually runs.
• Write reference answers with the legal reasoning behind each drafting and diligence judgment, from reps and warranties to indemnification structure.
• Grade model output on purchase agreements, diligence summaries, disclosure schedules, and board matters.
• Flag analysis that reads polished but would expose a client to real risk, the misses only a practitioner would catch.

Who this is for

• Attorneys with a JD, active bar admission, and at least two years of corporate or M&A practice at a firm or in house.
• Deal lawyers who have owned real workstreams, drafting, diligence, negotiation support, or closing mechanics.
• Practitioners who can explain why a provision is drafted the way it is, not just recognize the form.
• People with strong written English who can turn deal judgment into clear, teachable reasoning.

Contract and pay

• $100 to $200/hr, paid weekly via Stripe. Your rate is set from your experience, not negotiated down after you start.
• Fully remote, fully async. No fixed hours.
• Minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum. Scale up or down week to week.
• No screen recording, no keystroke monitoring, no idle timers.
• Independent contractor. Ongoing project work rather than single task batches.

How our hiring process works

2. Resume review. Every application gets read against a published rubric and gets a decision.
3. Written assessment. You may be asked to take a written assessment for further placement.
4. Onboarding. Sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, and get platform access.
5. Project match. You're matched to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.

Requirements

• JD and active bar admission in a US jurisdiction
• 2+ years of corporate or M&A practice at a firm or in house
• Hands on deal work such as purchase agreements, due diligence, or board matters
• Clear written English for documenting legal reasoning
• Able to commit at least 10 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

• AmLaw firm or sophisticated boutique deal experience
• Private equity, venture, or public company transaction depth
• In house or board advisory experience
