What if you could use your structural engineering expertise to help improve how AI systems evaluate real building projects?
We're looking for experienced structural engineers and building design professionals based in New York and across the United States to review building models, construction drawings, and design documentation. You'll help assess the quality and consistency of building projects, evaluate automated quality checks, and provide expert feedback based on real engineering standards and practices.
Your expertise will help us determine whether automated systems can identify the issues that an experienced engineer would catch — from structural inconsistencies to documentation gaps and potential design concerns.
This is a fully remote, part-time contract opportunity for professionals who want to apply their engineering knowledge to an emerging area of AI development.
Organization: Alignerr
Type: Hourly Contract
Location: Fully Remote
Commitment: 20 hours per week
Evaluate rules designed to identify issues in building models and drawings, such as unsupported elements, columns resting on beams, duplicate components, and missing or mislabelled spaces. Identify checks that are missing, overly strict, or too permissive.
Review Basis of Design documents to assess whether applicable building codes, design loads, fire and life safety strategies, egress requirements, elevator criteria, and structural design criteria are appropriate for the building type and jurisdiction — including the IBC, ASCE 7, and local jurisdictional amendments.
Review samples of 3D building models, construction drawing sets, and design documentation to identify inconsistencies and assess whether the project is technically coherent and buildable.
Provide expert input on the criteria that distinguish basic, professional, and premium quality building projects.
Explain identified issues and recommend improvements based on your professional experience and applicable engineering standards.
Experience with one or more of the following areas is particularly valuable.
IBC, ASCE 7, NYC Building Code, Canada's NBC, the Eurocodes, or other applicable international codes.
Structural analysis, member utilisation, deflection, drift, and the evaluation of structural systems.
Egress requirements, travel distances, fire ratings, and building life safety strategies compliant with US requirements.
Model checking, clash detection, interdisciplinary coordination, and construction model validation.
Experience with hospitals, transportation facilities, data centres, offices, cultural buildings, or other complex building types.
The project focuses on complete building project packages, including the following materials.
IFC4 models containing digital representations of building components and spaces.
PDF drawing sets used to communicate design intent and construction requirements.
Technical documentation defining the codes, assumptions, loads, and design criteria used for a building project.
You'll evaluate these materials together to determine whether the models, drawings, and design documentation are accurate, consistent, and aligned with real engineering practices.
Help improve automated systems that evaluate building projects against real engineering standards.
Review building models, construction drawings, and design documentation that reflect real-world projects.
Contribute from your own location in New York or anywhere in the United States while working fully remotely.
Earn highly competitive hourly rates for your specialised engineering expertise.
Help establish better quality standards for automated building project evaluation.
