Opportunity Overview
Handshake is looking for experienced civil and structural engineers to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job—you’ll draw on your hands-on industry experience to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing engineer.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.
What You’ll Do
Create expert-level engineering problems grounded in real design, modeling, estimating, and project work
Review AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and practical feasibility
Provide structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance
Complete tasks at your own pace with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement
Qualifications
Recent experience — Currently working as a civil or structural engineer, or have worked in the field within the past three years
Degree — BS, MS, or PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
Hands-on ownership — Experience personally producing models, calculations, quantities, or estimates that others use to build, price, or approve work
Technical depth — Experience in fabrication-accurate modeling, code-based structural design, takeoff and estimating, or applied simulation
Seniority matters less than directly owning the technical outputs you produce. PE or EIT credentials are preferred but not required.
Based in the United States
