Semiconductor & Chip Design Engineer

Opportunity Overview

Handshake is looking for experienced semiconductor and chip design engineers to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional job — you'll draw on your hands-on industry experience in chip design, EDA, VLSI, or semiconductor process engineering to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing chip engineer.

This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside your current role.

What You'll Do

Use your industry expertise to create expert-level engineering problems and scenarios grounded in real chip design, verification, and tape-out workflows

Review and evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, practical feasibility, and alignment with how the work is actually done

Provide structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance

Complete tasks at your own pace with no set schedule or minimum hour requirement

Qualifications

Ideal candidates meet all three of the following:

MS or PhD in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering; a BS in EE/ECE also qualifies when paired with strong industry experience

5+ years of hands-on chip design or semiconductor work in industry; 15–20 years is ideal

Depth in one or more of the following: VLSI design, digital or analog chip design, EDA tooling, semiconductor fabrication, or formal verification

Candidates who meet these are also encouraged to apply.

Proficiency with tools such as Cadence Virtuoso/Innovus, Synopsys Design Compiler, Mentor Calibre, Verilog, SystemVerilog, ModelSim, Vivado, or Quartus is a strong plus

Strong written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment

Work with your Designated School Official to determine your eligibility.  If your school requires a CPT course, Handshake AI may not meet your school’s requirements. STEM OPT is not supported.
