Physical Engineering
AI models can speak the language of engineering. They are much less reliable at engineering judgment. A model can misread a riser diagram, miss a code conflict, or produce a load path that does not close. Finding those failures takes people who do this work professionally.
We are building a network of practicing engineers, architects, and senior design professionals across MEP, structural, civil, architecture, and mechanical and industrial design. Members of the network may be invited to paid projects with AI research labs based on their discipline and experience.
The work can include:
- Authoring problems drawn from real practice, including sizing, load paths, code compliance, coordination conflicts, and constructability.
- Grading model outputs and explaining precisely where the reasoning, assumptions, or conclusions fail.
- Building benchmark items grounded in the artifacts engineers actually use, including drawings, calculation packages, submittals, and RFIs.
- Peer reviewing other experts' work and adjudicating cases where evaluations disagree.
- Joining occasional live sessions with lab researchers to work through difficult technical cases.
Joining the pool commits you to nothing. It puts your background on file so we can contact you when a project matches your expertise. Specific project details are typically shared after you join and are covered under the applicable project NDA.
Experts who consistently produce strong work may be asked to take on senior review and adjudication responsibilities. Those roles carry more responsibility and pay at the top of the project range.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- Roughly 3+ years of professional experience in engineering, architecture, or a related technical field.
- Experience working on real projects, not solely academic or research work.
- Clear written communication. You should be able to explain your reasoning to another professional.
Helpful, but not required
- A PE, SE, RA, or equivalent professional license.
- Depth in a discipline such as MEP, structural, civil, architecture, building envelope, or mechanical and industrial design.
- Familiarity with the codes and standards used in your field.
- Regular use of professional design, modeling, or analysis tools.
